These images are vital to express the totality of the disaster. I have viewed all of your postings and have to say that this information and these images are so important to put out in front of people. It is educational, heart breaking, sickening and emotional in soooo many ways.

I have not posted to you before, but justed wanted to take a moment and say Thank You. Thank You for the information, the truth, the tears and the laughter...because through it all it is a blessing to see the ones who survived. But we must remember those who didn't and pray we can provide a future where this doesn't happen again.

the suffering that these Katrina animals have gone through is unforgettable and haunting. the images and stories are beyond comprehension and will never be rationalized in my mind. my heart is eternally sad for these Katrina animals.

with that said...i encourage anyone who is an animal lover and who has been moved by these images and stories to get involved! become a foster home or volunteer locally with an animal rescue group! train to become a volunteer with a animal response team in disasters, or make your charitable donations to the organizations who help save animals lives each and every day.

as a result of Katrina, i just recently became an EARS volunteer with the UAN. i also have decided to go back to school and get my degree as a vet tech. next time disaster strikes i will be able to actually do something instead of sitting at my computer feeling so helpless. i never want to have that feeling again!

thanks for posting your pictures. the one of the cocker spaniel is truly amazing. if you look close enough, you can see the dog saying "thank you".

How can I reach the photo credit for the first photo (Barry from Alaska)? I am particularly interested in what happened to that dog... Does anyone know if he was rescued right then, or was he left to die? The look of worry in his eyes breaks my heart.

I found a Shepherd-type dog who had been tied up, probably in a back yard, during the hurricane. When the flood came, he chewed himself loose. He swam to the roof of a pickup truck. The water line was 6 inches below the roofline.

He died on the roof of the pickup truck -- baked in the sun -- surrounded by water, but no shade on the metal roof of the truck. The collar and frayed leash were still around his neck. No one came for him.
